American Lochte gets a double, breaks world record en route to second gold medal
Hoff clocked a new championship best of three minutes 57.07 seconds with Kylie Palmer of Australia in second place and Olympic 200m freestyle champion Federica Pellegrini of Italy with the bronze.
It capped a superb evening for the U.S. team, who took further golds through Katie Hoff in the women’s 400m freestyle and Ariana Kukors in the women’s 100m individual medley.

Ryan Lochte of the United States broke his second world record and claimed his third gold at the world short course swimming championships in Dubai on Friday.
Lochte demolished the previous mark of South Africa’s Darian Townsend by over a second as he won the men’s 200 individual medley in one minute 50.08 seconds.
He left rival Markus Rogan of Austria trailing in silver with fellow American Scott Clary claiming bronze.
Germany’s world record holder Paul Biedermann took the men’s 400m freestyle in three minutes 37.06 seconds while Cesar Cielo of Brazil confirmed his status as the fastest men’s sprint swimmer on the planet.
In other finals action Friday, there was an incredible 68th medal at world or European level for 33-year-old Swede Therese Alshammar.
Lochte has already broken the 400 medley record and also took gold in the 200 meters freestyle and a silver in the 4x200m relay.
She took gold in the 50m butterfly in a new championship record of 24.87 seconds.
Cielo set a championship record of 20.51 seconds in the 50m freestyle to hold off Fred Bousquet of France by half a bodylength in the final.
It is Lochte’s 19th medal since 2004 when he first competed in the short-course worlds, which are staged in 25 meter pools.
