Beach volleyball comes to Nairobi
Beach volleyball, a sport meant to be played on sand-laden seashores, is set to be held at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium handball court. The two-a-side event, dubbed ‘Beach Volleyball Extravaganza’ will take place between September 10 and 11 in an artificial beach. The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Beach Volleyball Committee is already working towards creating an artificial beach to host the event.
Committee member, Moses Mbuthia, said several tons of sand will be spread at the handball court to create the artificial beach. “The sport is not new in Kenya because we have had several competitions in Mombasa in the past,” Mbuthia said during a committee meeting at Nyayo National Stadium. The entry fee is Sh3,000 for clubs and Sh2,000 for colleges, while schools will pay Sh1,000.
