Canadian women thump U.S. in Olympic hockey rehearsal
As head coach of the Canadian women’s hockey team, Melody Davidson has the duty of breaking the news of broken dreams. With only 23 roster spots available, not every worthy candidate can represent Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
So she swallows hard, thanks the unfortunate souls for their service and sends them on their way, devastated. "It’s awful," Davidson said. "Just imagine if you work with somebody every day and then you’ve got to turn around and fire them."
The latest resume-building opportunity for the 25 candidates for the 23 jobs came Tuesday night against the archrival United States. In a likely dress rehearsal for the gold-medal final in Vancouver, Canada knocked off the U.S. 6-2 before an announced crowd of 7,145 at Pengrowth Saddledome.
