Chrysler v-p to race in Newfoundland rally again
Ralph Gilles, Chrysler’s senior vice-president of product design and CEO of the SRT (street and racing technology) tuning brand, will pilot a Dodge Viper SRT-10 around the infamous Targa Newfoundland rally to raise money for the province’s autism society.
The Haitian-Can-American Gilles, who’s driven the Targa three times before, will be accompanied by two teammates, each in a Dodge Challenger SRT-8 392, on the rally start date, September 10.
His partner-navigator in the rally is Toronto’s Jen Horsey. The 2,200-kilometer race across Newfoundland, now in its tenth year, has been described by Gilles as “The Iron Man of Motorsports.” It’s a nickname that’s stuck.
Here’s Gilles racing at the 2008 Targa Newfoundland. He lays it out pretty clearly exactly how grueling this race is.
