DT Tommie Harris Among Three Released By Chicago Bears
The Tommie Harris is over in Chicago. The Bears have announced that they’ve released three players including Harris. Also on their way out is LB Hunter Hillenmeyer and OT Kevin Shaffer.
The news isn’t completely shocking considering Harris had over $9 million due to him in 2011. He began his career as the Bears first round pick in the 2004 draft and quickly established himself as one of the dominant defensive tackles in the game garnering Pro Bowl nods in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Harris signed a four-year, $40 million contract in 2008 that made him the highest paid defensive tackle in the league at the time. Since that point, though, Harris has struggled with injuries and hasn’t been nearly as effective as he was early in his career.
Harris is now a free agent and eligible to sign with any team. However, he can not sign with a team after March 3rd, when the CBA between the owners and players is expected to expire. So if he wants to secure a team in 2011, he’ll have to act fast.
