Beach volleyball secures Fx Fitness as sponsor – by Staff Reporter

WINDHOEK – Fx Fitness, the Namibian personal training and fitness studio has come on board as official sponsor of the ‘Most Athletic Player’ award for the 2010 DTS Maerua Superspar Beach Volleyball Series.This was announced this week during an official sponsorship handover by tournament director, Heiko Kesselmann.

“We are glad to have secured Fx Fitness as additional sponsor to this year’s beach volleyball series and through their involvement we can further improve the event for participants and spectators,” Kesselmann commented.Fx Fitness confirmed their sponsorship of the ‘Most Athletic Player’ award, which will be awarded to a male and a female player at each tournament, as well as overall winners at the end of the series.

Melina has begun tweeting and noted that she is four months away from being able to return to the ring from the ACL tear she suffered in late December. The 2010 Winter Olympics, which have just ended in Vancouver, were the most successful in history for the Czech Republic, whose athletes are bringing home six medals. Czechoslovakia took the same number in Sarajevo in 1984, but the crucial difference is that this time the tally includes gold. In fact, speed skater Martina Sáblíková took two gold medals, becoming the first ever Czech to top the podium twice at one Winter Olympics.

She also earned a bronze medal, as did cross-country skier Lukáš Bauer, the men’s cross country relay team (which included Bauer), and downhill skier Šárka Záhrobská. Záhrobská was the last Czech medallist after the 25-year-old came third in the slalom on Friday to reach the podium at the Olympics for the first time.

London youths to help plan future of 2012 Olympic site

A group of young people from east London will help decide the future of the 2012 Olympic site, the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OLPC) has said.Aged between 13 and 21 and from the five host boroughs, they will visit the site over the next five months.OLPC Chief Executive Andrew Altman said the idea was to give young people "a sense of ownership" of the site.

The panel's 22 members come from Newham, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Greenwich and Tower Hamlets.The group will make several visits to the Olympic Park site, which straddles parts of the five boroughs.'Have our say' The different areas will benefit from regeneration as a result of the Games.The youth panel will also visit local schools and make suggestions as to what events they would like to see in the Olympic Park site after 2012.

Coventry City defender Marcus Hall says he is happy to play ugly football if it means the club continue their push up the Championship.City's win at Peterborough at the weekend was their fifth in six matches, pushing them up to eighth in the table."The manager's said it hasn't got to be pretty and I think the supporters were happy we came away with a 1-0 win," Hall told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

"It's another three points and keeps us in the mix."City's long-serving defender made his first start since December at London Road and helped Chris Coleman's team keep a 10th clean sheet of the campaign.The 33-year-old added: "We're not going to get carried away but it's another good performance."

Mikel Arteta was the star of Everton’s 5-1 victory over Hull City in the Premier League, scoring twice in a crucial win for David Moyes’ side. Landon Donovan and Jack Rodwell also hit the net while Hull’s Richard Garcia added an own goal.

Hull keeper Boaz Myhill saved a penalty from Yakubu and tennager Tom Cairney scored with a fine volley but overall it was a disappointing day for Phil Brown’s side. The result leaves Everton eighth in the table and Hull in the bottom three.

PS3 owners go positively gaga every year over Sony’s highly praised MLB: The Show. PlayStation 2 and original Xbox maniacs adored EA Sports’ MVP Baseball 2005, a game that’s still applauded as one of the best baseball extravaganzas ever. Even way back in the dinosaur days of the early ’80s.

When Microsoft’s Windows was but a gleam in Bill Gates’ eye, there was Major League Baseball for the Intellivision—justifiably the best-selling title ever for Mattel’s memorable old-school gaming system. We could prattle on if we weren’t under certain word-count restrictions, but the point is that most every console of note has had a really great baseball game to accompany it.

Man-made beach plan for Ashford water sports centre

Tourists could soon be flocking to Ashford with buckets and spades if draft plans for a water sports centre with a man-made beach get the go-ahead.A scheme including a sandy beach, boat house, sailing facilities and a restaurant at the Conningbrook Lake in Willesborough has been put forward as one of three new parks to be created outside the town centre.

The plans for the three parks have been laid out in the core strategy of the Local Development Framework, meeting a need for the amount of public open space to increase by 900 hectares in the next 20 years.

Lee misses the excitement of Test cricket

Brett Lee says that he is disappointed that he will miss the excitement and the challenge of test cricket. The 33-year-old has been hampered by injuries throughout his career and this has prompted him to retire from Test cricket in order to prolong his ODI and Twenty20 career.

"I am satisfied with my Test career and longevity. All those years were really exciting and challenging for me and I will miss those things. It was a tough decision to retire from tests," Lee, who plays for Kings XI Punjab, said.

Lee felt that his body could not take any more Test cricket as it is more demanding and he retired because of his lifestyle. "I just want to prolong my career in ODIs and Twenty20. I want to play some more matches for Australia and that's the reason why I took the decision to continue playing in shorter formats," said Lee.
