FGCU’s Beaubrun finishes 29th at FINA World Swimming Championship
Florida Gulf Coast University sophomore Dani Beaubrun of St. Lucia took 29th in both the 50- and 200-meter breaststroke en route to setting national records at the 10th FINA World Swimming Championship in Dubai on Wednesday.
Beaubrun competed in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter breaststroke and the 50 freestyle, breaking four national records. The World Swimming Championship uses short course meters, where most meets in the United States are configured in short course yards.
“Dani not only continues to improve in all areas, but is becoming more versatile going the 50 free in a major international competition for the first time,” FGCU coach Neal Studd said. “Dropping her time in the 200 breast, which has never been her favorite event, is a great accomplishment. She has worked hard in the pool and also the weight room and it shows. We are really excited what she can do at the conference championship in February.”
Beaubrun finished with a time of 32.01 in the 50 breast, while clocking in at 2:38.77 in the 200 breast. She also competed in the 100 breast and 50 free, finishing with times of 1:11.39 and 26.97, respectively.
Beaubrun was selected to represent St. Lucia in the World Championship after her performances at the Central American and Caribbean Games during the summer. She competed in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke, breaking five national records.
The sophomore rejoins her FGCU teammates when the Eagles open 2011 with a quad meet against Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association foes Georgia Southern, Liberty and Radford on Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Aquatics Center.
