Josh Beckett cleared for activity, won’t pitch Thursday
Josh Beckett passed his baseline concussion tests on Wednesday morning and was cleared for light activity. He won’t make his scheduled start on Thursday — prospect Stolmy Pimentel will start in his place — but he’s expected to take his next turn in the rotation.
“They have to monitor his activity, but he’ll do some biking and some light throwing and see how he progresses from there,” Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. “The No. 1 thing is to make sure he’s OK and he tolerates his activity. He’s only missed one day of throwing. That’s not too significant.”
To get back on the field, Beckett had to pass a test measuring his brain function, an indication that the damage from the ball that hit him wasn’t too severe.
“It’s hard for him because he’s illiterate,” Francona cracked. “Even on a good day, it’s probably not real good.”
