Lovie Smith’s Contract Extended to Two Years

Lovie Smith 300x213 Lovie Smith’s Contract Extended to Two YearsLovie Smith was on the hot seat for this season, but it seems like every time he is on the hot seat, he does things very well. With that, he led the Chicago Bears to an 11-5 record and to an NFC Championship appearance. If Jay Cutler wasn’t injured, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bears pulled out with a victory.
But Cutler will be healthy for next season, and Smith hopes to provide another great year of Bears’ football. With that, Smith was signed to a two-year extension, which will make him the Bears coach up to 2013.
“We very much want to extend Lovie, and the job that he’s done and the staff. Our focus, our intent is to extend Lovie,” Angelo said at the time. “We wanted to wait until the season is over. That will be part of the business at hand in the next several weeks.”
Smith has led the Bears to a Super Bowl appearance before, but that was the last time Chicago made it to the playoffs, which was in 2006. Four years later, Chicago is back in business.
Smith has a career 66-52 record (including post-season) with the Bears, which is third-most in franchise history. He is only trailing greats like George Halas and Mike Ditka.
