Ricky Williams is 32 and far from done. And even without Ronnie Brown, the once written-off Miami Dolphins are back in the playoff picture.Williams rushed for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns, and the Dolphins beat the Carolina Panthers 24-17 on Thursday night for their fourth win in six games.A day after learning Brown is lost for the season, the Dolphins (5-5) continued their surge after an 0-3 start behind Williams. The 2002 NFL rushing champion had a receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game for the first time in his career that includes a couple of lost seasons.

The Arizona fans finally saw a semblance of the team they watched win the NFC championship last season. It just took awhile on Sunday. Rookie Beanie Wells had second-half touchdown runs of 10 and 13 yards and the Cardinals rallied from an early two-touchdown deficit to beat the Seahawks 31-20, just Arizona’s second home win in five tries. Kurt Warner completed 29 of 38 for 340 yards and two touchdown passes for the Cardinals (6-3), who stayed two games up on San Francisco in the NFC West. In the process, Warner became the 29th player in NFL history to throw 200 touchdown passes. He had his 51st 300-yard passing game, tying Dan Fouts for fourth on the NFL career list.

Charles Woodson helped Green Bay’s defense finally play up to its potential against a big-time opponent, forcing two fumbles and picking off a pass by Tony Romo on the goal line in a 17-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. It wasn’t a pretty win for the Packers (5-4), but it might have saved their season after back-to-back demoralizing losses. The Packers sacked Romo five times and held him to 251 yards passing in a momentum- killer for the Cowboys (6-3), who had won four straight. Dallas also lost starting right tackle Marc Colombo to a broken left leg. Aaron Rodgers scored on a quarterback sneak and threw a touchdown pass to tight end Spencer Havner. Rodgers was 25 of 36 for 189 yards and a touchdown in another rough day at the office, taking four sacks and spending much of the day under pressure. But he took matters into his own hands to lead the Packers on a 15-play, 80-yard drive capped by Rodgers’ 1-yard touchdown on a sneak for a 10-0 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Baltimore’s smothering defense held the Cleveland Browns at bay as the Ravens kept their post-season hopes alive with a 16-0 victory over their AFC North rivals on Monday. The Browns (1-8) replaced Derek Anderson with Brady Quinn at starting quarterback as they desperately sought to revive their flagging season, but it was tough assignment for the 25-year-old, who was sacked four times and intercepted twice. The third-year player finished 13-for-31 passing with 99 yards and is now a woeful 1-6 as a starter. It’s frustrating for everyone including me," Quinn told reporters, his team having scored a league-low five offensive touchdowns all season.Starting again is obviously a good learning experience but you rather it be at the expense of winning and not losing.

The Kansas City Chiefs might want to think about moving to Oakland or at least trying to play the Raiders more often. Jamaal Charles scored on a 44-yard run for Kansas City’s first rushing touchdown of the season and the Chiefs used a late interception to win their seventh straight game in Oakland, 16-10 on Sunday. The Chiefs (2-7) have managed to win just five of their past 35 games. But three of those wins have come at the Oakland Coliseum, where Kansas City has the longest winning streak ever by a visiting team. Ryan Succop kicked three field goals and Kansas City once again pulled out a close one against the Raiders (2-7) in Oakland in their first game since releasing running back Larry Johnson. The Raiders scored a touchdown on their opening drive and then managed just three points and 202 yards the rest of the way. For the second straight home game, the Raiders pulled former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell for ineffectiveness.

The Baltimore Ravens waived second-year kicker Steve Hauschka on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after he missed a 36-yard field goal in a 16-0 win over the Cleveland Browns. We entered the season knowing that we would have to go through some growing pains with Steve," Ravens’ general manager Ozzie Newsome said on the team’s website.

That happens with most new kickers in the NFL.But, for where we are as a team today, we need more consistent production from our kicker.Every one of our players has to step up to a Ravens’ level of play and that was not happening for Steve right now.Hauschka connected on nine of 13 field goals this year.Baltimore (5-4) are expected to sign either former New York Jets kicker Mike Nugent or ex-Dallas Cowboys kicker Billy Cundiff, both of whom worked out for the team last week.

Scotland games could be shown on terrestrial televisionScottish Secretary Jim Murphy has said he will consider Scottish opinions for what sporting events should be on free-to-air television.

Sports fans have been urged to give their views on what Scottish events should be broadcast on free-to-air television.

Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy announced he would be gathering opinions from supporters on the issue. The move follows an independent review of which events should be given listed status to ensure that they are shown on free-to-air television channels.

The review, headed by David Davies, the former executive director of the Football Association, recommended home and away football qualifiers for both the World Cup and the European Championships should be listed for all of the UK home nations.

Scotland fans have been campaigning for their football team’s qualifying matches to be shown on terrestrial television. The UK Government will now carry out a consultation on the recommendations. continue reading…
