Volleyball puts honeymoon on hold
So where do Steve Grotowski and Capri Hilgendorf go the day after their wedding? A volleyball tournament on Fort Lauderdale Beach. These two players did not enter the Florida Beach Volleyball Tour event, but they, along with some of their friends, who also play on the tour, stopped by to watch on Sunday, May 30.
Actually, Grotowski coaches the new beach division of Boomers Youth Volleyball Club in South Florida, and two of his players won. Nikki Lyons, 12, of Fort Lauderdale and Alliyah McBean, 14, of Hollywood finished first in the Girls 14s. It was a nice birthday present for Grotowski, who turned 28.
Helping Grotowski coach at Boomers is his pro coach Michael Morales who also attended the two-day competition. Morales coaches Grotowski and other local pros. With dual citizenship (Great Britain and United States), the 6-6 Grotowski has been competing in Europe and the United States. One of Great Britain's top players, he is eyeing the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
